TeaTalk with: Pete Charters, Paid Media Manager.

We’re back with our first TeaTalk of 2022!  We sit down (virtually!) with Pete Charters, our Paid Media Manager for a cuppa and a chat. We find out why he joined Cogent, what he’s most proud of and what motto helps him at work.

What inspired you to get involved in Digital Marketing? Was this something you always wanted to do?

I studied Advertising and Marketing at University and thought it would be easy to find a job in the industry. Fast-forward to having graduated and I found myself working on the shop floor of a high-street bank for 6 months. Getting the job I wanted was not as easy as I had anticipated!

I have been lucky enough to work in Marketing for several different industries. However, I decided to specialise in Digital Marketing due to the ever-changing structure, tech and close proximity to data so you can always see the results of your work.

What is it that makes Cogent different to other places you have worked at?

Cogent is made up of many teams, all of which are specialists in specific areas.  This ensures we operate efficiently and as an all-seeing and all-doing agency. This structure allows us to work fast but also be the best sum of our parts for the benefit of our clients.

What is your career highlight to date? Something you are proud of!

In a previous role, I had been leading the Paid Media activity for an automotive client and the work our team produced was nominated for a Drum Award.  I also helped to plan and market ‘The Learning Awards’, which was an awards show for the learning industry hosted at The Dorchester in Mayfair. Tess Daly was hosting and I got to meet her!

Do you have a motto or ethos that helps you in your everyday work?

I try to keep a relaxed head as it allows us to make fewer mistakes and most importantly enjoy our work. It’s all about working smarter and reducing the stress.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most and why?

I enjoy the ever-changing nature of what I do and produce in Paid Media. One hour I can be producing a report for a coffee machine manufacturer and the next I’m doing keyword research for luxury yachts! The diversity keeps me on my toes.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I was part of the Coventry University challenge team! Unfortunately, we did not make the TV round but went the furthest the university had ever gone.

That’s all from Pete.  Keep an eye out for next month’s TeaTalk where we’ll be sitting down with another member of the Cogent family.
